A Word About Vaccines
Many breeds of dogs have been shown to have immune vaccine reactions. Among them are Akitas, Weims, Great Danes etc.
Recently Beagle breeders including ourselves have started to experience what appears to an immune reaction to vaccinations, particularly to the initial series of distemper. Because of this we now give the Merial Recombitek®® C4
Immune reactions can appear anytime from 5 to 45 days after a vaccine and can be quite severe. Also, there is more and more evidence that annual vaccines are probably contributing to cancer in dogs. Therefore it is imperative not to over vaccinate.
We do not give Corona. We do not start Lepto vaccines until the age of 5 months and then give the series separate from all other vaccines. Please discuss the Lepto vaccine with your vet and follow their advice
We never give vaccines to dogs that have just been given heartworm preventative, are ill, or on other medications.
Rabies booster must be given per state law. Other boosters should be given at age 16 months and then no more often than every 2 years.
It is extremely important that you make your vet aware of the protocol we are following. Allowing your vet to administer shots that have already been given will invalidate your warranty
